| Characteristic: | GdL is a fine white nearly odourless, crystalline powder with a slightly sweet taste. It is freely soluble in water and sparingly soluble in ethanol. GdL is easily biodegradable in a static test within two days. Solutions of GdL have a very low order of toxicity and are non corrosive. Physiologically D-gluconic acid or GdL is an important intermediate product of the carbohydrate metabolism. GdL’s application range is primarily based on the slow and mild acidification capability when reversed to gluconic acid. GdL can be mixed with other dry substances without undesired reactions. If GdL is blended with water containing substances, finished mixtures might be influenced by undesired reactions through hygroscopicity |
| Country of origin: | France |
| Description: | A neutral cyclic ester of gluconic acid formed by the removal of water. It is commercially produced by an aerobic oxidative fermentation of glucose. The ring-like arrangement gives the GdL a very stable structure. In solution both gluconic acid and GdL are always in balance. The equivalent point and the rate of transformation are related to concentration, temperature and pH-value. The reversibility between gluconic acid and GdL exhibits the properties of gluconic acid with delayed acid release |
